Female army veteran "who tied her PTSD dog to a tree and killed it is found dead"
A female army veteran who allegedly tied her dog to a tree and shot it five times while laughing has been found dead, it is reported.
Police are investigating the death of Marinna Rollins as a suicide, according to the NY Post.
Rollins was reportedly given the dog after she was diagnosed with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and mental health problems.
Disturbing footage surfaced which appeared to show Rollins, dressed in a pink bra top, tying the dog to a tree before aiming a gun at the animal, dubbed Camboui.
The dog was then shot five times with a rifle, according to court documents, while it is claimed her soldier boyfriend filmed the incident.
The latest reports claim Rollins was found dead in her apartment at about 3am on Sunday.
The 23-year-old was reportedly out on bail at the time of her death.
Rollins and her boyfriend Jarren Heng had been charged with animal cruelty and conspiracy over the incident.
Court documents state she teamed up with Heng, who is stationed at Fort Bragg in the US, according to a police warrant.
The couple then allegedly tied the dog to a tree and took turns filming the white and gray pitbull dog, Camboui - referred to as Cam or Cammy - throughout, the New York Post reports.
At one point on the footage Heng says: "Let me hit him once." As the dog lies on the ground twitching, Rollins is heard to say: "That's his nerves going."
After the alleged killing it is claimed the pair dumped the dog's body in a shallow grave in nearby woods.
The couple claimed they were putting the dog out of its misery as it was suffering from an illness before its death, on April 16 or 17.
Rollins is believed to have joined the army in February 2014 and been medically retired in January.
She spent time in South Korea and served as a multimedia illustrator, the Fayetteville Observer reports . It is unclear when the couple got together.
Last month Rollins began writing on Facebook that the animal would be going to a new home soon where he would be "much happier."
Footage of the alleged shooting was posted on a Facebook page titled "Justice For Cam."
Moderators for the page wrote: “As graphic as the videos are, they tell Camboui’s story, that he was unable to do.
“Many people thought he was going to a new home, and family.
"These videos prove otherwise, that he was brought out to a wooded area, shot multiple times, and then beaten and dragged to a shallow grave.
"Like a piece of trash, not a well taken care of ESA. His body is still out there, somewhere in those NC woods.”
The pair appeared in court at the end of last month.
Cumberland County District Attorney Clark Reaves confirmed the animal was a "therapy dog."
He said: “They can be heard on the tape laughing and giggling as the dog was being killed."
